Cheesy, Layered Deliciousness

For as long as I can remember, my family's traditional meal at Christmas has been lasagna. After Thanksgiving, we were tired of turkey and dressing so we always turned to the cheesy, layered deliciousness of lasagna to break the holiday monotony. Ironically, when Stephen and I were engaged I learned that his family had the same tradition! Hmmm... a foreshadowing of things to come?

Ever since we got married, my mom or Stephen's mom (who passed away in 2005) would usually make the Christmas Day lasagna. On rare occasions we have turned to Stouffer's (oh, the horror!) for our holiday feast. Since God has placed a call on our family to minister to Italians, I decided this year that it might be a good idea for me to learn how to make authentic, Italian lasagna. When Laynie's teacher gave out an assignment to make a presentation to the class about our family's holiday traditions, I figured that was a perfect opportunity to make my first attempt at homemade lasagna.

Ingredients for the sauce

After a lot of chopping and dicing

About halfway through the layering process

The finished product! Ta da!

Isn't that wild that we had an Italian buffet for the "Dunn" family gathering on New Year's Day? I so enjoyed everyone being here with all those yummy Italian dishes to eat until we couldn't! It is one of my favorite family memories. Love you!

I love our Dunn family gatherings each year and that is one thing I am really going to miss when we're gone. Maybe we can Skype in for next year's celebration!
