On October 2, 2008 the life of our family changed forever. That was the day the Lord revealed to us the spiritual darkness in Italy. Until then, we had seen Italy only as a fascinating, boot-shaped country filled with great pasta, fast sports cars, and some of the world’s greatest art and architecture. Then God opened our eyes to this peninsula filled with lost and hurting people, where breathtaking cathedrals stand empty of everyone but a few curious tourists.You may be saying to yourself, “How could a land filled with such supposed enlightenment be so spiritually dark?” We once thought that way too, until we learned some facts about the current spiritual state of Italy.
- While 95% of Italians consider themselves Catholic, only 5% actually attend mass regularly.
- Out of an estimated population of 60 million people, only about 1% have a personal relationship with Jesus.
- Out of 33,500 Italian communities, 32,000 have NO established evangelical church!
As we became more aware of the spiritual situation in Italy, we felt compelled of God to go and spread the message of Jesus Christ to Italians who desperately need to know Him.
