What Do the Kids Think?

FAQ #3 - What do the kids think about moving to Italy?
(REAL QUESTION - How could you do this to them?)

ANSWER - Honestly, this is not something we just decided to do. The Lord spoke very clearly that He was calling our family to do mission work in Italy and that includes our kids. Some of our biggest concerns have had to do with Bryson and Laynie and how they will adjust to a new culture. However, God already knows all the challenges they will face and we have to trust that He will walk with them through anything that comes.

As you can imagine, Bryson and Laynie are feeling a mix of emotions as we get closer to our day of departure. Instead of trying to answer this question all by myself, I thought I would let them put it into their own words.

BRYSON - "I think moving to Italy is kind of fun because we get to get a new pet and we get to meet new people. I’m excited about teaching baseball to my new friends and trying new foods. One more thing I’m excited about is touring Europe and sightseeing and getting to see monuments. One thing I’m not excited about is leaving my old friends."

LAYNIE - "I think moving to Italy is sad because I have to leave my friends and my country. I also am excited because I get to speak a new language. I also think moving to Italy will give me more space to play around, but I am kind of sad because I have to get new friends and I don’t want to leave my old ones. I’m excited because I get to ride on my first airplane when we move. "

Brandy, I'm so glad the kids took time to articulate their feelings. As with most big decisions it is a mix of both bitter and sweet emotions.

You have to give yourself permission to feel both at the same time. Preparing our kids to handle this is so very important!
