The Sad Office Chair

My husband, Stephen, never ceases to amaze me with his creativity. In light of the economy, our office has been tightening the belt (as well they should) to cut unnecessary spending. The following poem was Stephen's unique attempt to get approval for a new desk chair (which he did receive). Hope you enjoy!

The Sad Office Chair

There once was an office chair that sat alone in a room,
He rarely had visitors, so solitude was his doom.
Each day started with hope that his bolts would be tightened,
But sadly each day ended with everyone frightened.
See no one trusted the chair at all,
For they saw it had a lean and supposed they would fall.
One day the owner tried to show some pride,
He turned the chair around and looked inside.
Hoping to find the reason for the lean,
He straightened it out; fixed it, it would seem.
Only each time he tried his efforts were to no avail,
As every time he tried to fix it would fail.
Over time the owner just left it alone.
He never wanted to spend time in his chair, even to answer his phone.
The little chair wondered if anyone would ever care,
The owner knew though that it was beyond repair.
So he wrote a clever poem with his best rhyme,
Hoping it would convince his manager to spend a little money this time.
For he had hopes of parting with his old chair,
And finding a new home for his hurting derriere.
If this poem has done it’s work,
Then you’ll approve me having a new chair and not think me a jerk.
I look forward to your response in regards to my sad little chair
And hope you find this request honest and fair.
