I wrote earlier in the week about the great need for Christ's message to reach Europe (Empty Cathedrals on 10/19). There are literally hundreds of millions of Europeans who desperately need Jesus. Now if you're like me, that seems a little overwhelming! You're probably asking yourself, "What can I do to meet such a huge need?" We can PRAY!!! Greater Europe Mission has proclaimed today, October 23, 2008 a Day of Prayer for Europe. They are asking Christians everywhere to join with them in prayer to ask God to "continue His work of expanding His kingdom through all the peoples of Europe to the world".
They have a really cool tool online that allows you to click on various countries and find out specific needs in that area. Then you can click on the "I Have Prayed" button to signify that you have prayed specifically for that country. So far, 2,570 people have prayed for one or more of the countries in Europe. Greater Europe Mission is hoping for at least 10,000 people to have prayed for Europe by the end of the day today. I challenge you to be one of them!
Here's some more info from Greater Europe Mission, as well as a link to the Virtual Prayer Journey:
Only 2% of Europe's 800 million people know Christ. Yet God is still at work there, drawing people to Himself. Our prayer is that God will use these disciples to draw more and more people to Himself, reproducing disciples both within Europe and around the globe where Europe has influence. Our website's Virtual Prayer Journey will guide you in praying specifically for needs and strategies related to each country in and around Europe. Generally, we will be praying:
- against spiritual barriers to the Gospel
- to lift up the poor and needy
- for strategic advance of the Gospel
- for individual missionaries serving in Europe
It is our prayer that this information stirs your heart as much as it does ours. If you join in this prayer movement today, please send us a comment to let us know! Thanks for caring about the lost in Europe!
